The story of 1300 CLEAROUT, a family-run South East Queensland business established in 2007
Back in 2007, 1300 CLEAROUT began with one truck, a family building a new life in Australia and a simple idea: getting rid of unwanted rubbish should not mean doing all the heavy lifting yourself or spending your weekend making trips to the tip.
Nearly 20 years later, we are still helping households and businesses clear unwanted furniture, household rubbish, green waste and commercial junk across Brisbane and South East Queensland.
The trucks and the jobs have changed over the years, but the principles behind the business have not: arrive when promised, explain the price clearly, treat the property with care and make the whole process easier for the customer.
A new start in Australia
Paul and Sisse Newton moved from England to Australia with their children in November 2006. They had previously run businesses in the UK and arrived on a business visa with plans to establish a new company in Queensland.
The move came with real pressure. The family’s ability to remain in Australia depended on the new business succeeding, meeting its required turnover and creating work for Australians.
Only a few months after arriving, 1300 CLEAROUT began operating in January 2007.
A more helpful way to remove rubbish
At the time, Paul and Sisse believed there was room for a more professional, hands-on rubbish removal service in Brisbane. The aim was not simply to leave a skip bin at the kerb. The team would come to the property, collect the rubbish from wherever it was located, do the lifting and take it away.
Customers would know who was arriving, what the service included and how the price was worked out. Clearly marked trucks, uniformed staff, straightforward communication and respect for the customer’s home were important from the beginning.
That approach is still at the heart of 1300 CLEAROUT today. Some customers only need one bulky item removed. Others need a garage, office, rental property or entire home cleared. Either way, the goal is to take the physical work and inconvenience off their hands.
“Driven to succeed”
Not long after the business opened, Paul and Sisse’s story appeared in the SE Advertiser under the headline “Driven to succeed”.
The article explained that the success of 1300 CLEAROUT would determine whether the family could remain in Australia. It also described the service as a way for customers to avoid carrying heavy rubbish and using their valuable spare time to make repeated trips to the dump.
Looking back, the headline captured those early years well. There was plenty of motivation to make the business work, both for the family and for the customers who were beginning to rely on the service.
Growing into an established Brisbane business
The early work paid off. In 2009, 1300 CLEAROUT received a Business Excellence Award for Best Emerging Business.
By 2010, the company had met the business requirements connected with the family’s visa. Paul, Sisse and their children later became permanent residents and proud Australian citizens.
Over the years, the service expanded beyond the first local jobs to cover Brisbane, Logan, Redlands, Ipswich, the Gold Coast and surrounding areas. The team now helps homeowners, tenants, businesses, real estate agents, property managers and families handling deceased estates.
The work includes household rubbish removal, furniture and mattress removal, garage and shed clean-outs, moving-house rubbish, office clear-outs, green waste, deceased estate clear-outs and skip bin hire.
Still family-run and still hands-on
Although 1300 CLEAROUT has grown, it remains a family-run business. Paul is still closely involved in the day-to-day work and continues to attend jobs and drive the trucks. Sisse continues to look after calls, bookings and customer enquiries.
That personal involvement matters. The people who own the company see the customer feedback, understand the practical side of each job and take responsibility for the service being provided.
Many clear-outs happen during stressful periods. A customer may be moving, preparing a property for sale, clearing a family member’s home or dealing with years of accumulated belongings. We know that by the time someone calls us, they may already be tired of sorting, lifting and making decisions. Our job is to make the final part simpler.
Nearly 20 years of rubbish removal across South East Queensland
As we approach our 20th anniversary in January 2027, we are grateful to the customers who supported 1300 CLEAROUT in the early years, recommended us to friends and family, booked us again or took the time to leave a review.
What started as a new business created by a family hoping to build a future in Australia has become an established rubbish removal service with deep roots in Brisbane and South East Queensland.
We are proud of how far the business has come, but we are just as proud that the original idea remains intact: practical rubbish removal, clear communication and real help with the lifting.
